Marc and Bella Chagall

The Marc Chagall show at the Jewish Museum was pretty amazing, if you're into his work.

The most incredible piece was a hardcover notebook kept by both Marc Chagall and his wife, Bella.
The notebook was started by Bella Chagall in 1942. In it she began writing poems and recording translations of Yiddish works into French. She died two years later in 1944.
After she passed, Marc Chagall took up her notebook and filled its bare spots and pages with his sketches. For 20 years he worked in Bella's notebook,  filling in what she had left empty.
